Tamil Nadu state Human Rights Commission takes up action against traffic police for assaulting woman and her son

State Human Rights Commission of Tamil Nadu is said to have taken suo moto cognisance of the incident where traffic police officials were found assaulting a woman and her son on a broad daylight at T Nagar on Monday evening.

The Commission has ordered for Suresh, SI Mambalam Traffic Police Station and Jayaraman, Special SI of Police to appear before the Commission on April 18th at 10:30 am for enquiry. Commission added up the officials failed to comply without any lawful excuse, final decision at the proceedings which will be taken by the Commission that they would proceed against under Rules 10 and 12 of Order XVI Civil Procedure Code.

The incident was shared widely on social media and was condemned extensively. Motorist was identified as one M Prakash, 21, of Saligramam. His mother Sangeetha was said to be crying and pleading with police to let her son go. Incident occurred on Monday at T Nagar. City police subsequently released up a CCTV footage showing the entire sequences and incident claimed at Prakash who was suddenly grabbed by sub inspector by his shirt and punched him at the face.

Police stated that sub inspector Suresh had stopped Prakash since he was riding triples on motor bike with his mother and younger sister and also was not wearing a helmet. Police press release stated that policeman was only asked the motorist to pay the fine for the violation to which Prakash reacted violently.

One of the videos showed Prakash stating that he was ready to pay but was only objecting to certain words used by another police officer.
