Pineapples prize increased in Chennai

Pineapples are transported from Kerala state, Kochi to Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market. As said that about 12 trucks comes to the market but as the rain were erratic in this year and so the harvest of pineapple was lesser. As it is said that this is the fasting month of Ramzan, pineapples are exported to Saudi Arabia.

It’s said that quantity of Pineapple at Koyambedu wholesale market has reduced in current time. Only 2 Lorries carrying pineapples are brought to market. Right now the price of pineapples are increased up by 4 times

Earlier, pineapple was sold at Rs. 35/- to Rs. 45/- per kg.

Now, the price of pineapple is Rs. 140/- per kg!

A single pineapple was sold earlier at Rs. 15/- to Rs. 20/- per piece. Now, the price of pineapple per piece is Rs. 45/- to Rs. 60/-.

It’s said that last week, mangoes which arrived to Koyambedu had reduced as many mangoes had fallen from the tree. It said that mangoes sold at Rs. 50/- per kg, now the current price is Rs. 60/- per kg.

Mr. Jayaraman, Member, Koyambedu Market Committee, explained that the prices of fruits such as watermelon, grapes, and mangoes have gone up compared to last week by Rs. 10/-.Alphonsa mango is sold currently at Rs. 100/- per kg. Banganapalli mango is sold at Rs. 60/- per kg. Grapes, which were sold at Rs. 50/- earlier, are now sold at Rs. 60/- per kg. Watermelon, which was sold at Rs. 15/- per kg is now sold at Rs. 20/- per kg.
