Metro trains to get lit using LED strips

When we move to save expenses and electricity the lightning systems of trains are under Chennai Metro Rail are to be changed. Present trains are now lit using CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps), and these are to get replaced using LED light strips. LED lights are to be installed along with train ceiling.

When comparing the powder consumption of two, CFL needs 3.7 KW per hour whereas LED strips need only about 185 KW per hour. Counting on numbers that there is a total of about 100 CFL lamps at each and every metro train.

This may look very small initiative counting on expenses for about  years which can contribute huge saving for cost spent towards electricity due the sum spent towards LED to be about Rs 3,00,000 to Rs 40,000 KW while it will be whopping Rs 6,00,000 or 82,000 KW with CFL. CMRL officials stated that they are been working out on this project for many months now.

For first phase project, 42 trains are ordered and about 25 of them are now functional. At the following months, LED strip installation is to be carried out in phases. Furthermore to note that these LED have lifetime of about 11 months.
