Metro rail between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park operated from May
As to control the traffic in Chennai, Metro Rail scheme is said to be implemented. Works are going on in two corridors at the distance of 45 kms.
At first corridor trains is said to operate between Chennai Airport and Washermanpet and at second corridor trains is said to be operated from Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount through Koyambedu and Egmore. In first phase trains are now said to be operated between Koyambedu and Alandur. Metro rail services startd between Airport and Alandur. Soon trains are said to start between Chennai Airport and Washermanpet which will be operated and similar trains are between St Thomas Mount and Chennai Central is said to be operated.
At the first corridor, there will be railway stations from Washermanpet, Mannadi, High Court, New Secretariat office, LIC, Thousand lights, Gemini, Teynampet, Chamiers Road and Saidapet.
At the second corridor there will be railway stations at Central, Egmore, Nehru Park, Kilpauk Hospital, Pachaiyappa`s College, Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar East, Anna Tower and Thirumangalam. Apart from these nine stations, there ware also 19 underground stations. Works are said to be started at the railway stations are going in rapid pace.
Stretch of 7.6 kms between Thirumangalam and Nehru Park is all set to ready for final inspection. Safety Commissioner is said to inspect the stretch at the last week of March or first week of April. After clearance, stretch is said to be open for commercial operations.
