High Court approves offer Rs 1000 to ration card holders who buy only sugar

Chennai High Court granted approval to provide Pongal special cash gift Rs 1000 to ration card holders who buy only sugar.

On behalf of Chief Secretary of state government Department of Cooperatives, Consumer Safety and Food, Dayanand Kataria, a petition was said to be submitted to Chennai High Court requesting approval to offer Pongal special cash gift Rs 1000 to ration card holders who buy only sugar.

This came up for enquiry today on Friday, 11th January afternoon before bench of judges Sathyanarayanan and Rajamanickam. Advocate Vijay Narayan, representing state government of Tamil Nadu, explained ration cards for buying sugar were distributed only with view to reduce demand for rice and facilitate the ration card holders bo buy additional quantity of sugar. He further explained that ration card holders who buy sugar don’t belong to economically forward section of society they were also poor, he requested to ban lifted and they should be offered Pongal special gift of Rs 1000 cash.
