Heavy rains forecast in Chennai – National Disaster

There are continuous heavy rains and frequent floods in Tamil Nadu last December. Heavy floods severely specially affected Chennai, Cuddalore and Thoothukudi.

Chennai Metro City was flooded in numerous urban areas. 421 people have lost their lives. Goods and items worth hundreds of Crores of rupees were damaged. Its been warned that this year is said heavy rains occur to last year. 

Tamil Nadu State Government Officials have taken several precautionary measures in areas expected to be affected by floods. Following this, Tamil Nadu state government has taken several precautionary measures. 

Special squads was headed by IAS Officers, which have been formed to undertake the floods precautionary activities in each and every region. Higher officials of Police Department have also enlisted to assist in flood precautionary activities. In Cuddalore, Police officials of Rank of IG(Inspector General) have been enlisted.

IG David Aaseervatham are been enlisted for Kanchipuram district. IG Sarangan has been enlisted for Thiruvallur district. Special control room are been set up which was headed by additional DGP AK Viswanathan and IG Sandip Roy Rathore.
National Disaster Response Force which have been posted and kept upon alert in areas that are likely to be affected by floods. First phase, five squads from National Disaster Response force are to be invited. 
They will be deployed from the National Disaster response Force camp at Arkonam, Each squad is said to have 45 persons. 225 persons (5 squads) are to be deployed. They posted and kept alert mode in Chennai, Cuddalore, and Thoothukudi from Friday (4th November). They would ready to be with small rescue boats to carry affected people away from flooded areas. Each rescue boat can carry 10 persons. 
After checking this weekend’s rain situation, a decision to ask for more squads from the National Disaster response Force will be taken.
