Government banned 327 drugs

Union Ministry Health has banned manufacture, sale or distribution of many 328 varieties of combination drugs to keep a check on irrational use on fixed dose combination medicines. Move has affect over 6000 medicine brands worth for about Rs 25000 crore across country.

FDC medicines are two or more drugs contained at a single dosage form. They are manufactured to evade price control measures are low cost drugs which can treat multiple diseases. Move was taken considering up the larger public interest states a government statement which adds up that will help curb wrong use of “unsafe” FDC medicines. Report states that the health ministry took decision to ban up these drugs after the Drugs Technical Advisor Board suggested that these drugs might create health issues.
There are many popular drugs such as Saridon (painkiller), Gluconorm PG (used for diabetes), Lupidiclox (antibiotic), etc, doesn’t come in sale. Experts is said to believe that combination drugs are to be unsafe because unaware physicians can prescribe wrong dosage that can in make human body resistant to treatment. India`s overall Rs 1.10-lakh crore drug market is saturated with over 25,000 brands.
