Fruits can help you fight obesity
According to a new study, berries, grapes and few other fruits can convert excessive fat content into ‘beige’ fat which is a calorie-burning one. This can be of help in treating obesity. High fat diet was fed to mice during the study conducted in Washington State University. This involved giving resveratrol in quantities that equaled giving 12 ounces of fruit every day to humans. This controlled 40 per cent of weight gain in mice. To note, resveratol is a polyphenol which is an antioxidant present in most fruits.
Mice that were fed with 0.1 per cent resveratrol were capable of changing the white fat that’s excessive in their body into beige fat that’s energy-burning one. Further, the study also stated that gene expressions can be increased by polyphenols in fruits, including resveratrol. This increase in gene expression increases oxidation o dietary fats which prevents your body from overloading, and converting excessive white fat into beige.
Further, it is also stated that the enzyme AMPK regulates body’s energy metabolism that stimulates white fat to get transited to beige fat. The results of the study were published in the International Journal of Obesity.
