Drunk cop gropes woman, crowd blocks traffic on Arcot Road

A drunkard sub-inspector of police created a new sense by groping a woman on Arcot Road near Kodambakkam on Saturday night following which her colleagues and passerby gathered for the protest and blocked traffic on the busy road

Police booked S Paneerselvam, who is with the force’s Vadapalani station traffic enforcement personnel, on a complaint by the woman’s brother. The woman who is the resident of Perambur works in a Kodambakkam company was on her way to home at 8.30pm when Paneerselvam molested her, stated by police official.

She was waiting with five colleagues to cross the road to United India Colony when special sub-inspector Paneerselvam approached her from the other side of the road. On the pretext of helping her to cross the road, Paneerselvam touched her in an indecent manner. Shocked by the behavior of police officer, she quickly walked away but when he called her and made a sarcastic comment, she decided not to be silent. She and her colleagues complained about Panneerselvam’s behavior to other police personnel nearby.

The policemen tried to safeguard Panneerselvam by getting down an auto rickshaw for the woman. As she refused it and called her relatives on her cell phone, the special sub-inspector changed his clothes to conceal his identity.  But a group of her colleagues and members of the public surrounded him and, with the woman, proceeded to block traffic on Arcot Road, demanding action against the policeman.
