CMWSSB drinking water charges increased for four times

CMWSSB provided with drinking water supply connection to 8 Lakh houses at the Chennai Metro city. Consumption of drinking water charges is collected once in 6 months each and every year. Charges are Rs 50 for residential houses, Rs 150 for partial commercial connections and Rs 200 for full commercial connections.

Charges are collected through offices to set up in each locality. In order to reduce wastage of drinking water and also decision to increase up the rates for full commercial connections which has been decided to install digital meters for connections.

At the 1st phase of implementation, digital meters which will be provided for commercial drinking water connections. 12000 digital meters to be installed. There is an increase of 10000 new connections on each and every year. Charges is said to be on basis of drinking water consumed.

For residences, charges are rs 20 per 1000 litres of water consumed. Scheme is said to have extended gradually to all connections. When this is said to be implemented that there are various prospects of charges increased up for about four times.

This was been estimated for about 340 litres of drinking water is required each and every day for 5 family members. According to the consumption which will be 10000 litres per month. Once digital meter scheme is said to be implemented, charges are to be Rs 200 for 1000 litres of drinking water.

CMWSSB officials explained that this scheme is said to be implemented at first phase for all commercial connections. 12000 digital meters will be installed and the consumption of each drop of drinking water will be calculated.
