Chennai police started evicting protesters at Marina Beach
Chennai city police on Monday morning started evicting jallkattu protesters on Marina Beach who has refused to leave the protest place even after police requested them to move. Police requested the protesters to disperse in peaceful manner as the purpose was been fully achieved since the state government has given the ordinance on Saturday.
Police issued a press release on early hours of Monday stated that the protest are been staged in peaceful manner without any disturbance to the general public and traffic. They also stated that the participants are been assisting the police throughout and cooperated well in maintaining law and order for traffic regulation.
Police stated that the government has passed an ordinance and taken necessary initiative to conduct jallikattu in many places at Tamil Nadu to full fill Tamil Nadu people’s aspirations. Protesters were been evicting in many other places in state including Vellore and Coimbatore. Protesters were discussing whether to disperse or not, Police force surround up the area and asked the protesters to leave. After 6.30 am, police started forcing the protesters to leave the venue. Some protesters left the place willingly while others stayed there. Some protesters ran towards the sea front when police chased them.
